Ascent Trip ReportSolo hike of these 5 peakbagger peaks in the Menifee area. The first three were 2141, 2096 and Brannon. I followed Mike Sullivan’s track, starting at Aspel. To get there I went north on Menifee Rd from Newport Road to McCall Blvd., turned left to Aspel then left to the end and park. I followed a dirt road, fairly steep up to 2141 where I found a small wooden cross. There were several religious sayings painted on the rocks on the way up. From 2141, I dropped down to a ridge road, turned right and followed it out to 2096. On this one there was a large steel beam cross. This was Sunday and there were about 12-15 folks on the summit. From 2096, I dropped down to the ridge road and followed it in a north direction to Brannon. There were no crosses on Brannon. There were no registers or BM on any of these 3 peaks. From Brannon I went back on the road, traversed around 2141 to avoid the gain and descent.
Next was 2167. Drove back to Newport, headed east to Leon Rd., turned right and drove to Norma Way. I turned left, drove on the dirt road pass several homes, then saw a road the was south of Norma, crossed over to it and headed east on this dirt road. I didn’t get very far as the road was more then my Subaru could handle. I parked and hike up the road, switched to a saddle north on 2167 and followed a use trail up to the summit. I found a couple of rock cairns on the summit, but that was it.
Next was 1859. I drove to the intersection of Briggs Road and Old Newport Road and parked next to a chicken ranch. You will be able to smell it especially if it’s a warm day. From there I followed a series of dirt road to the base of 1859, then followed a use trail to the summit. Again nothing but a rock cairn on the top of one of the two big boulder on the summit.
