Ascent Trip ReportThis one can include a nice walk if you wish. I parked at the entrance to the Ford Ord Dunes State Park. You end up going through dilapidated buildings from the former Fort Ord. I remember visiting this base when I was a young airman in the USAF. I took my bike along the attached GPS track. At the crest of the path, there is a signed area with a small tower in the middle of it. It is off-limits because of restoration and a butterfly. I parked my bike and made my way carefully to step only on sand...for about 50 feet. There is an equal contour on the other side of the bike/hike path, but it seems slightly lower from sighting it. It is also questionable if it is actually in the state park. There are other entry points that can be used that are closer. I say, enjoy the experience of being on the coast.
