Ascent Trip Report

Sierra Club hike to Rosa Point from the S-22 via Smoketree wash. Left the wash at 1400' to take a side gully veering east, eventually climbing up to the ridge on the east. Followed the ridge line to Rosa Point via Pyramid and Marble and other small bumps. Down via an old miner's trail back to Smoketree wash from Pyramid Peak. Ascent route was slightly different from the original plan, but it worked well, lending nice variety to the hike at the cost of some extra distance. Totals for the day approx 14 miles and about 5000' gain. Hot day, in the 80s for much of the day. Breeze limited or none. Round trip time 12.5 hours--slightly slower than expected owing mainly to the heat, and getting off the route a couple of times. Fantastic views. Battery died, so no GPS track. Then again, there is no reason for anyone to pick our route to climb the peak, other than exploring the mountain range. Photos:
