Ascent Trip ReportGot doubly lucky on this one. Well-constructed iron gate, plenty of signage, and horseback riding homeowner looked to foil the hike, when John drives up with a key to the pedestrian gate to hike Pine, which he tries to do 200 times a year. Asked to join him and learned tons of stuff about the unique flora of the region and the seasonal changes from this retired state parks ranger. Even got a brochure on the region from a geocache near the summit of Peak 1740 next hiked. Good thing I was with him as it would have involved 2 fence hopping, two homeowners driving down the road, and two equestrians one of whom was saddled to a 36 year old horse! Great views too, especially with somebody who could point out what everything was.
