Ascent Trip ReportAfter climbing Panamint Butte and Canyon Point the previous two days, Peter and I wanted to climb one more before going home, so we chose Pyramid. We camped across the street from the TH in the old trailer park. It was great to pull the truck up onto a slab of concrete and be level! In the morning, we headed over the open desert to the wash and followed it around to where the climb starts...but at that point we had already done about 2.8 miles and 1000'! The climb was nice with a use trail much of the way. The only confusing part is the last section where the DPS guide says "follow a game trail along the base of cliffs on the west side of this (black, jagged) ridge to the summit area. It was difficult to know how high or low this trail was. We went down too far. On the return we stayed much higher up and it went better. But it is difficult to see when you reach the crossover to start this section. The weather continued to improve and, although cold (40s), we had sun and only a little breeze. A very nice peak to cap off our weekend! |
