Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 6th visit to Woodall Mountain. It seems the "Family Factor" brings me back to many of the state highpoints over and over again. This time it was with my 10 year old grandson, Cypress, who now has three state highpoints. I was planning to hike up Woodall Mountain, but we were a little behind schedule and the accent road was a little muddy, so we just drove up. The Highpointer Club's improvements are very obvious here with the great signs and bench plus the summit register, but the register could use some maintenance. The latch is broken and several bits of signed papers were littering the summit. I picked up all the notes I could find and put them back into the summit mailbox. I also worked on the door and got the magnetic latch to secure the door, but the next person who is not sensitive to the latching problem will certainly leave the register with an open door again. It is a shame that a permanent register can't be maintained. It is obvious that visitors want to sign a register as evidence by all the papers crammed into the mailbox. Cypress and I did not bother because I felt it would not be long before someone leaves the broken door open again and the register notes will once again blow out and litter the summit.
