|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||5913 ft / 1802 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWe drove to this trailhead last Sun night after doing Manly and Needle with a group, but woke up to rain and decided we'd better get out in case of flash floods or impassable roads. So we came back Thurs night to do the hike on Fri. The road is in pretty good shape. At the road fork at the head of Gold Valley, we took the left fork (not the right as stated in the DPS guide) and were able to drive down to a good starting point. The weather was nice, the dust was non-existent after the rains earlier in the week, and it was a pleasant hike. On the descent, we decided to follow the ridge down rather than dropping into the canyon right away. This worked really well as there was a nice scree chute that hit the canyon floor just prior to the canyon opening up to the open desert floor.
