Ascent Trip Report

I used Eric Kassen's route to make this my final high point gain for 2017. The drive to Sycamore campground is very suitable by car, but there is one water crossing at the 6 mile mark on the West Turkey Creek road.

The Mormon Canyon trail was accessible about .3 miles up the dirt road from the Sycamore campground. Left my car and started from the campground. The trail continues to suffer a lot of damage from the fire in 2011. I stopped counting the fallen tree crossings on the trail after 20, and the trail on the ascent is easy to lose, but also easy to find again. When descending the trail comes into view much easier. I started encountering snow patches at 7600 ft. The snow became deeper and consistent at 8900 ft. I failed to bring gaiters making for wet feet. Found the bench mark with the register is a plastic container that needs to be replaced. Hopefully someone will read this and bring a new and stronger container to replace the one up there.
