Ascent Trip ReportUgly.
4WD road in is not difficult, but is convoluted. Follow directions in other TRs precisely. Park at water hole.
No trail anywhere at all. We hiked up the sides of the wash, then steeply up to the saddle, then very steeply up to the ridge, then along the far righthand(N) side of the ridge to the summit. We came straight down southward towards the huge mine, bypassing the ridge system, but having to deal with crossing a half dozen minor ravines coming back to the saddle area. Pick your poison.
6-7+ species of cactus. Jumping Cholla about got the best of me. They attack anything, even full leather boots. I had on fleece gloves, big mistake. Bring leather gloves. Bring tweezers or needle nose pliers.
Loose rocky talus terrain up high. Loved having my trekking poles. Needed more than the 2 quarts of water I brought. Fascinating mine to the SW, extends several miles, visible on aerial photo.
