Ascent Trip ReportThis is a wonderful and easy bushwhack access through the Middlesex Notch Trail. Much of this area is conserved including a Wildlife Mgt Area, MIddlesex Town Forest and (to the northeast) the Putnam State Forest . Park at the WMA Kiosk near the end of Notch Road on the left. IN winter make sure that you leave enough room for the plows to turn around - its ok as long as your car as at the edge of the lot. Walk to the end of the Notch Road in a few hundred yards to reach the Town Trail (a thrown up road). Hard to believe that this was an actual road at one time - it gets pretty wet at the "notch". The trail is great for an easy hike or ski or you can use it for bushwhacks to Chases Mountain (2257) to the northeast and a fun whack or Owlshead to the west.
I like the whack to Owlshead in the winter - skiing to about 1500 ft and then switching to snowshoes for the rest . This could be done in a couple of hours. There are some obstructed view from the summit to Waterbury valley and Camels Hump. Check it out.
