Ascent Trip Report

We headed south from Lincoln County and drove to a ranch on the north side of the Benton County HP, where we encountered the ranch owner. We asked him if there's a legal way to get to the top of the hill. He called his neighbor on the south side of the mountain, who told him to send us his way. So we drove around to the south side and chatted with this rancher. I dropped the name of my farmer uncle, who lives in nearby Prosser, and after that mention we were in like Flynn. He told us exactly how to get up the road, his only admonition being to be sure to close all the gates behind us. It was late in the day, and hot weather down low. On the summit it was quite cool and breezy, so after hiking from our parking spot to the top and back we came up with the brilliant idea of sleeping in the rig on top of the hill instead of heading back down in the dark and trying to sleep in the heat. First thing in the morning we drove back down uneventfully.
