Ascent Trip ReportAfter a nice stay in Monde Rio, celebrating our anniversary, we drove to Amstrong Redwoods and Austin Creek state parks. The parks are next to each and easy to find from the south. We drove in to the kiosk and paid our $8 and proceeded through the dark shade of the redwood trees. When we got to the main area of the park, we took Armstrong Road to the north. This is a one lane, no joke road. It is paved, but it is really one lane. You climb approximately 1000 feet. You will come to a intersection of sorts and west there is a parking area for a couple of trails. You will want Pool Ridge Trail that will travel south, back in Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve. The trail descends a few switchbacks and then you will make a sharp left turn in the trail. Anywhere along this easterly path, you need to bushwhack up to a ridge line. The highpoint is a liner to the west. The GPS track shows where we went and our griding the area...loosely.
