Ascent Trip Report

My third visit to this top, it is after all the highest hill and only Marilyn in Merseyside and has some fine views over the surrounding much lower land.

It is also the high point of St Helens, repeated as one of a series of UA tops on my way to a conference at the ACC Liverpool. I parked on Crank Road near the transmitter aerials, although in retrospect using a small lay-by further west would have been better. The summit is ground between the trig point and the 18th century tower (or what’s left of it). The easiest access is on foot down a lane past Beacon Farm, Crank Road, WN5 7EZ, don’t be put off by all the security cameras!
