Ascent Trip Report

Torrecilla is a great half-day hike. It's relatively simple and the other trip reports cover the ascent, but I want to emphasize how recommendable this mountain is. We climbed the switchback road (more scenic) rather than the trail, passing numerous Spanish Firs, a rare endemic species. After the road section, the final few kilometers to the summit cross a unique karstic plateau on a well-crafted trail with extensive views south to the Mediterranean and Morocco. To the west are a number of sharp peaks including El Torreón, and below them the hills are dotted with white villages. We spent about 5 hours on the mountain, and easily made it back to Ronda for an afternoon of exploration.
