Ascent Trip Report

Parked at McKeever trailhead and biked to the bridge. Rained quite a bit. Very wet, muddy bike trail. Deep ridges sent my bike sliding quite a bit, but my son did better with his mountain bike. There were some fairly large trees down that we had to carry the bikes over. Trail to the tower was extremely wet and muddy with pools of water at many places. Towards the summit, it was clear that water had washed away leaves down the middle of the trail. Well marked trail, easy to climb. Tower had minimal fencing, some on the stairs but none on the tower itself. I wouldn't feel safe taking small children up it. The top was locked. Encountered two hunters on the way down. One said it's the first time he saw evidence that the water had flowed over the bridge and washed the ground away (we did see this). No other hikers on the trail. Took about 4 hours total. Headed out to do Bald/Rondaxe.
