Ascent of Charleston Peak on 2017-10-25
|Date:||Wednesday, October 25, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||11916 ft / 3631 m|
Ascent Trip ReportGot my DPS Emblem on this day. Nice weather. We popped up our camper in the parking lot and were not bothered. However, this time of year only the vault toilets in the upper parking area are open. The campgrounds in the area were closed. A sign at the beginning of the trail says it is 8.3 miles to Charleston. It's really a full 9 miles each way. The burn area is sad to see, but is only along a portion of the trail. There was a monument with two US flags on the summit in honor and remembrance of the victims of the October 3rd massacre in Las Vegas, with a sheet of paper listing the name, age, and hometown of each person killed.
