Ascent Trip ReportAs in Greg Gerlach's recent trip report, we parked where the road got bad, about 2.5 miles from the Mogollon Rim. A big 4x4 could make it over the rocks and through the sand, but our rental wasn't up to the task. We followed Forest Road 76 and then turned off to the right, going gradually uphill through the forest to a rock pile on the edge of the rim that held a summit register placed by Richard Carey in 2003. A land survey marker projected from the rock pile here, but the USGS benchmark lay to the southest at on obvious, jutting section of the butte.
The sheer drop of the Mogollon Rim, with AZ route 260 far below, is quite a sight. To the south, many other prominent peaks are visible. For a little variety, we tried returning along forest road 9176 shown on the topo map, but we found it abandoned and intermittent.
