Ascent Trip Report

This attempt was made soon after I and my family returned to our home in Vancouver WA from a two-year stint in Juneau AK. I had missed the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, and was anxious to see what the eruption had done to nearby terrain, and Craggy Peak seemed like a perfect target for that. I was impressed with how much ash was all over the ground, but with a couple of winters to clean things up, there wasn't much left on other surfaces. I have always believed that we summitted the peak, but after Paul Klenke climbed it many years later he sent an e-mail to all who claimed to have climbed it and wondered if we had brought an extra pair of undershorts due to the scary move on the summit ridge. This raised questions in my mind as to whether or not we had actually summitted because I didn't remember anything that scary, so several years after that e-mail I decided to go back to see if I could remember. Well, I couldn't remember for sure, so instead of claiming a climb in 1982 I changed it to an attempt, which also changed my completion date of the Skamania County P1Ks to that second climb. Here's the report for our return trip on October 13, 2018.
