Ascent Trip Report

Starting at the Lone Pine trailhead, Laura and I hiked up the Brown trail about 1.7 miles to a saddle, then followed a use trail marked by pink tape to the base of a gulley, encountering one 3rd class down climb along the way. Next, we climbed up the gulley, which has several high class 3 sections to surmount, to the ridge, then we made our way up to the summit (Eric Kassen's GPS track shows our ascent route, and is also the route mentioned in the Arizona County Highpoint book written by Scout Surgent). On the decent, Laura and I followed Dean Gaudet's GPS track down to the saddle; this route went down a section of class 2 rock to a brushy gulley, then went down a class 1 gully through moderate brush and an occasional use trail back to the saddle. We encounter 4 people on the summit, and did not find a summit register on top. Also, chiseled into one of the summit rocks was the following: "J.R.A.C.A. TEMPLETON 4th CAV. 1867". Kind of cool!
