Ascent Trip Report

This was a nice fall ridgeline hike from Bull Creek Pass to the summit. As I was recovering from a recent leg injury, I took my time ascending the trail and navigating the talus.

On the ascent, I walked over the false summit and past the rock shelters (deep holes) over the talus. On the return I followed the cairned trail around the western face of the ridge line.

The weather was calm, with a cool fall breeze picking up here and there.

The access route (Bull Creek Pass Backcountry Byway) was dry and in good condition from the access point on SR-95 all the way to Bull Creek Pass. I chose to descend to the west, past McMillan Springs campground and on to the Notom-Bullfrog Road near Sandy Ranch. The dirt track was in rougher condition than what I had found on the eastern slope of the range, but not terribly so. The wash crossing near the end of this route was in much better condition than I had found it a few years ago (at that time, high runoff made the crossing tricky enough to require high clearance, 4x4, and proper driving technique). Heavy machinery parked nearby indicated that someone is routinely working to keep the crossing passable after successive weather events.
