Ascent Trip ReportOn labor day weekend, my friend had a overnight camping permits at Sahale Arms. But that area has smokes from nearby wildfire. So we didn't expect to see the better views. Although this was previous permits which are very difficult to obtain, we disposed and decided to go on Gothic Basin as the weather looks promising and no smoke coming in.
It was bingo. The day 1, we left 4pm at Portland, and drove to the TH of Gothic Basin. The small tiny parking lot was full and a lot of cars are parked on the road at inbound/outbound, both ways. We spotted the parking space luckily near the gated trailhead. We hiked in 2 miles or so from the gate to find out the real trailhead with sign. Gothic basic hike is pleasant, gradual ascent for a while. Eventually, I reached to the basin, from there, less than 1 hour to reach Foggy Lake to set up tent. It was still 1pm. In this afternoon, I climbed Gothic peak, Next day, I summited to Del Campo. My friends didn't go. So I climbed both peaks by myself. Getting to the base of Del campo, there are many cairns and trails are relatively obvious. Once I reached to the base of the mountain, that's the point rock scrambling starts. Going straight upward and then going around mountain from East side to the backside of the mountain from the camp site. And again, straight up to the summit.
At the summit, there is a green box for summit registration. But I couldn't open the lid... unfortunately.
Nonetheless, the view is gorgeous.
