Ascent Trip Report

Wonderful family day trip to 'the serrated mountain' from our base at Sagàs, an hour away to the north.
Got the rack railway up the hill. Only arrived at approx. 14:40h, late! We all visited the Basilica first - beautiful church and amazingly powerful live organ recital underway, bringing out all the amazing acoustics of the holy basilica.

Determined to climb up to St Jeroni peak, would at least be a little more training preparation for our main goal of ascending L'Obiou next week.

Left the family and main basilica area behind at 15:10h, to hike up with with eldest son Xavier. Tried to hike as fast as we could, but bit slowed by my lack of breath and lack of fitness. (Xav was perfectly fine as he'd just completed the 4-day 100-mile Nijmegen hike the month before).

We reached St Jeroni peak at 16:30h. Took pics on summit and admired amazing views and bulbous rock formations all around.

Departed the summit at 16:52h and we actually ran all the way down (apart from 10 min period where we were stuck behind a group of slow-walking Spaniards who seemed obstinate in not letting us pass!); arrived back at base 17:32h, panting. Running down was great, in one way easier than walking down. This was my first run in at least 10 years and I was most pleased to get down without having a myocardial infarction!

Thus we were up in 1h 20 min, down in 40 min.

Joined family at the bottom for ice creams to replace lost calories!
