Ascent Trip ReportOne of Washington's most spectacular views! The trail starts right at the end of the road (go to Summitpost or another site for directions on the long dirt-road drive). The route starts on a trail that traverses a gentle ridge. Eventually, the trail drops right into a basin. From here, the route fades into a bootpath and begins up a prominent gully between the false and main summits. The route then cuts right and traverses back and forth up the southwest side of the mountain. Some routefinding skills are needed to follow the route. The scrambling is mostly easy but there is a fair amount of loose rock, some exposure in places and a couple tougher Class 3 downclimbing moves near the summit. The reward for reaching the top is a phenomenal. A who's who of Northwest Washington's most significant peaks! Overall a great day of climbing and definitely a summit to return to another time. |
