Ascent Trip Report

A rough road with a whack to 2 areas .... 1.2 miles, 150' gain, 42 minutes RT

I am entering this TR to correct some of the confusion in Bill Schulers TR.

From I-131, exit 180 on the east side of Cadillac we went east on #55 for 1.7 miles to a right turn on 49 Road (Seeley Road), 2 miles south turned left onto Finkel Road. We drove Finkel east for .8 miles to a fork immediately over the crest of the road (the first half mile is paved then sandy the rest of the way) - do not go left here (not for low clearance), we stayed right as the road continues another .25 miles to the TH at a small clearing (150 yds before is a large clearing with a house trailer). This was our TH (44.22186,-85.31535).

I hiked a rough/obscure woods road northerly (over a small bump) for .4 miles to AREA 1 (an overgrown grassy area), then bushwhacked northwest along a ridge .2 miles to the wooded AREA 2. Nice open woods with no underbrush to speak of.
I backtracked to TH in 15 minutes.

From here we went to Briar Hill following Michael Schwartz's TR. We had to park at .4 miles up FS5006 as we were not able to drive to Michael's TH - too sandy for our risk level (2.8 miles, 1:20 hours RT).
