Ascent Trip Report

summer ascent attempt on gunn peak wa.
ascent route: barclay road, fisherman trails, steep forest trail, waterfall crossing, steep forest trail, alpine meadow, ended at meadow
descent route: alpine meadow, steep forest trail, waterfall crossing, steep forest trail, fisherman trails, barclay road

notes: we started at 4pm sunday night expecting to make it around 4000 feet to find a suitable relatively good place to setup camp. unfortunately the landscape is extremely steep and we couldn't find a suitable location before nightfall (8pm). we stayed at the trail on the meadow until 6am the next day and went back down, as we had too much weight and not enough sleep to justify continuing the ascent.

in hindsight we could have camped near barclay road and ascended the following day with less weight. the climb was extremely steep and not to be underestimated for such a small mountain, there was major overgrowth and bushwacking. the weather was unusually warm in the area, there were a lot of pest insects. all in all we could have easily completed this climb with a little bit of extra prep, we'll finish it the next time.

notes2: the waterfall crossing had no water Sept 3rd 2017. some residual tags along the trees to help along the way, not placed by us.
