Ascent Trip Report

Unfortunately I had missed climbing during the peak of the fall season because of work 7 days per week. So, when I finally took a day off, I decided to go get an easy, warm-up climb under my belt again and Kane Mt. was the easiest of those left on my list for the Fire Tower Challenge. I took the "longer" East Trail up and it was very easy to find the parking area. Just as I was getting out of my truck I saw a few snow flakes fall (first I had seen all year!). The trail was pretty wet, but in good shape and easy to follow. Before I knew it I had gone the 0.9 miles to the summit and spent some time in the tower, which was in pretty good condition. There was snow on the ground most of the way up, but not even enough to cover the leaves. I expect this to change within the next couple of weeks though. I also took a peek in the old observers cabin which was surprisingly still in decent shape. It had a creepy vibe to it with the front door missing and all the hand prints on the walls inside, but could easily be fixed up if anyone was interested in manning it again. Even for a cloudy day, the views were pretty nice for such a short hike and it gave me #21 towards the Fire Tower Challenge.
