Ascent Trip ReportIf accessing Baldy Mountain from Green Mountain then a valid New Mexico hunting, fishing license or GAIN pass is required since the mountain falls within the Colin Neblett WMA. Turned off US-64 onto a dirt road then took the right fork, entering the signed Colin-Neblett WMA. The road rises rapidly and the first half mile is rutted and rough but it smooths out. Never needed 4WD. Stayed on this road for 4.4 miles to the unmarked Touch-Me-Not Trailhead near a telephone pole. TH offers plenty of parking due to it starting on a parallel road.
Two other vehicles there due to bow hunting season. One hunter told me I wasn't supposed to be there as the area is off-limits to all except bow hunters. I told him no posted signs state that and ignored him. I've since learned the hunter is correct due to recent rule changes that have not been posted. New signs are to be posted on the access road in the near future.
The unmarked Touch-Me-Not TH starts on an unused road heading north. Cairns are present. The road ends just under a mile in and turns to a constructed trail that receives little maintenance. Cairns continue to mark the trail to the top of Touch-Me-Not. Beyond that few cairns. The trail between Touch-Me-Not and Baldy Mtn is a hodge podge of game trails, occasional cairns, open country and old four-wheel drive roads. Having the GPX track is desirable as Phil Robinson's track does a great job in sticking to existing trails and open areas easing travel. Summit log on Baldy Mtn in a metal pipe.
