Ascent of Compton Peak on 2017-09-02
|Date:||Saturday, September 2, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2909 ft / 886 m|
Ascent Trip ReportDrove down to pick up the highest mountain within 90 miles of my house (115 miles drive plus the hike ). Rain left over from the hurricane was lingering but it wasn't ever too bad. I think I wind up worse when I sweat doing hikes and runs on warm days. Mostly hiked the steep initial bit which joins the AT from parking at Chester Gap. The trail crosses skyline drive and then gets rocky and Interesting. Trail goes from the AT up and and over Compton and then to an overlook. Not much of a view today but still worth the extra walk. Jogged back down, took the side trail to Carson, but didn't scramble up in the wet.
