Ascent Trip Report

My wife and I drove in the day before on the main road to
spot elevation 7804 at 40.9264, -108.8463.
From here a mapped jeep trail climbs to Drill Hole
at about 9300'. However our Honda Accord was no jeep,
so we only got to about 8,160' where we bush camped on
a treeless saddle. The road is getting washed out, so
be prepared to park a sedan even lower, or perhaps at
the main road.

The next day we walked the jeep road from camp to
about 9280' where the road makes a switchback. We
took a couple bush whack shortcuts along the way. The road never
gets too steep, so high clearance (HC) vehicles might
be able to make the drive (rocks may need to be moved)
and HC 4wd should be fine unless the road deteriorates
more.

From the high switchback we headed up through trees to
saddle 9480- (40), continued up to spot 9575x, dropped
to saddle 9520- (40), and then hiked to the summit,
where we found a Mike Garratt register. Views were
limited somewhat by trees.
