Ascent Trip ReportOur friend, Peter Jenden in Calgary, recommended we climb Mt Rundle when we were in Banff, so we did. The Visitor Centre has a "Scramblers Guide to Mt Rundle" which was helpful, but the stats did not match the route. There was smoke in the air from BC fires which slowed us down, but the described route was 10 miles, 5400', and 10.5 hours (plus an hour on the summit). Their numbers just didn't make sense. There were other climbers, one guy was apparently a competitive racer and zoomed by us (and everyone else) on his way up and down, so he would have made the expected times, but no one else seemed to be. There was one simple 3rd class move on the summit ridge to get to the true summit which I did but nobody else seemed to go past the first point they could look over the ridge. Views are outstanding even with some smoke in the air, but if you get a clear day you are really in for a treat!
