Ascent of Cardinal Peak on 2017-08-19
|Date:||Saturday, August 19, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8590 ft / 2618 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAfter climbing Saska in the morning we packed up camp (below Emerald, 6900') and headed for the meadows below Cardinal's standard route. We dropped overnight gear behind a log, hung a food bag, and started up crosscountry. From here to summit: 2:45. The choss was hideous, but we managed. We took some time sniffing out the class 2-3 route, but it was not too bad. We enjoyed the summit for over an hour and headed down. Got to our packs in under 2 hours and opted to hike part way out. We passed the meadows camp, the junction with the Pyramid Mountain trail and dropped down to the stream where we found a single camp site there and crashed for the night.
Next day we got up at 6 am, had a nice breakfast, broke camp and headed out at 7:40. Got to the car at 10:30
