Ascent Trip Report

I parked at the 40th St TH and immediately left the trail to go straight up the hill on the east side of the lot. It was fairly open and easy going. The hill rolled over two or three times to reveal a higher peak. Once over the first major saddle I found an unofficial trail that went to the top. This made it easier to manage, but the whole hike wasn't that long anyway. On the way down I got into the SW gully and had more loose rock and brush to contend with. I wouldn't recommend this route. There was a mysterious pit that looked like maybe an old mine shaft entrance under a palo verde on the hillside here. I returned to the parking lot, but instead of driving off, I began a hike up another peak to the west.
