Ascent Trip ReportIt's easy to see why this is a classic climb!
3 person climbing team, with it being the first time the others had done trad multi-pitch climbing. Given that I wasn't really experienced we weren't moving quickly at all.
I led each pitch with Emily in second position and Cora coming up on a second rope (both 70m, one single-rope one twin/half). At the fixed piton on P3 I used a foot loop because of fall-consequences moving out onto the '5.6' slab (I thought the 5.7 move later was easier). I free soloed the short 5.7 friction slab just below summit and put in a short fixed line for the others to ascend, then enjoyed a brief rest before starting down.
We used another fixed line to get down to the first rappel (tree with slings), which was very close to 30m to a flat area, then hiked out and to the right to find the upper chains. We used a dual rope rappel for the others, then I hauled one rope in and did two single-rope rappels (lower chains) to reach the ramp just above the saddle. By the time I had gear and ropes packaged for the scramble down it had gotten dark, so the descent through the gully was probably the most challenging part of the whole climb.
Over the course of the climbing I used almost all of the nuts, hexes, tri-cams, and cams that I brought.
A great climb with good company in a beautiful place!
