Ascent Trip ReportIt is curious that this is called the "Old Post Office". We visited the building shown on many web sites and it still clearly has old bank signs on the exterior. The county historical society has a sign up designating it as the fist bank in Okanogan, WA. Additionally we spoke to the building's current owner. She was talkative and wanted to know anything that we might know about the building. She has lived in Okanogan all her life. There are older photos of town showing a fire lookout tower (perhaps on the roof of this building). There are other offices in the same building which were let out to various renters through the years.
Down the street (Hwy 20east bound) there is the county historical museum. They have a fire lookout museum of sorts along with a building. It looks like the same building form the aforementioned photo. Whether the building was moved, reconstructed, or this new one is a reproduction, I do not know. They were closed. Another time perhaps.
