Ascent Trip ReportWorthington Knob is owned by the State of Tennessee and is open to the public. To get there take Summer City Road south from Luminary, Tn. to Luminary Fire Tower Road. Turn right on to Luminary Fire Tower Road and follow it until it dead ends at a big orange gate. Park at the gate and walk up the road to the fire tower. The hike up to the tower is about a quarter of a mile with an elevation gain of about 100 feet.
The fire tower is still standing and the steps going to the top are open. It was foggy while I was there so there were no views. The benchmark is located behind the fire tower. This is the second highest peak in Bledsoe County.
The state has planted about 10 rows of what appears to be chestnut trees about a 100 yards from the fire tower. The youngest row of trees are closest to the fire tower and are about 3 feet tall. The biggest trees are trees are about 20 feet tall.
