Ascent Trip ReportThis state park highpoint is a bit tricky. I approached from the west side and saw a road that led up toward where I needed to go, but it had a big, black formal gate on it. After trying the other side of the area and consulting with the ranger at the park, I decided this was my best approach. So I parked the car across the street(near an entrance to a marina)and then made my way quickly through the partially open gate and then up out of sight. I followed the switchback road until it crested and met with another road from the west(state park road). All the roads were overgrown with grasses (and probably snakes). I followed it east as someone else in peakbagger had used this approach for Clark Peak. I ended up going over a fallen gate and then cresting on a small hill only for the road to descend again. I had a little directional challenge here and it was hot, I had sandals so I turned around and went back past the gate and then I took a trail that went off to the south from the one I was on. It was exactly what I needed. I got to the border of the state park, in this area. I was within 400 feet of the HP, but there was a wall of poison oak. So I opted to go back and try on a cooler, hiking shoes, arms and hands covered day :)
