Ascent Trip Report

This peak has been on my mind for quite a long time. I was pretty excited to finally get the opportunity to bag it. Working night shift has made early morning starts a little easier, I left my house in Jerome at around 4am and took my time to enjoy the drive. After turning onto Senate Creek road I made the mistake of staying left at the Y shortly after turning off of Hwy 75, which caused a small delay as I ended up at a random yurt on a dead end forest service road. I got flipped around and back on track, and hit the trail at 0721 hrs. This climb was very self explanatory and obvious from the trailhead. I didn't make it very far into my hike before I needed to start shedding layers. The steepness is not to be taken lightly, it got my blood pumping right from the start and didn't let up until the top. There is some trail systems on the way and I used them part of the time, but I found it easier to just stay on the ridgeline and go straight up. Once I arrived at the treeline there is a very visible climbers trail the rest of the way. Upon gaining the summit I found that there were two summits, an east and a west, the west summit is the main one, but a bagged the east one too just in case. I hung out on the summit enjoying the views for an hour, and wasn't in any hurry to leave, except I knew the heat of day was soon to come. The descent actually went much slower than the ascent because I took my time to enjoy the views and take some pictures. I managed to get off track and ended up dropping off the west ridge sooner than expected ending up on a main trail on Senate Creek and followed it out to the pickup.
