Ascent Trip Report

"Summited" as part of deep south highpiont solo roadtrip. After summiting Cheaha moutain, I wanted a real hike, however, cloud were looking kinda foreboding. I elected to do a hike/run on the Pihoti trail. I did a really nice 8mi loop that was beautiful, however, did get rained on hard. After getting back to the car and drying off, I headed west driving through the talladega national forrest. I passed the raceway on the way to Birmingham. I stayed overnight in Birmingham, which I absolutely loved and ate some excellent BBQ at Saw's. The next morning I visted the civil rights museum, which I was very impressed with. Then drove north towards tenessee. I had planned to stop for lunch and tour of the sudios at muscle shoals, but got a late start, so continued on north west into Mississippi. Woodall moutain was also a drive up summit. I could have hiked up the dirt/gravel road, but the rod surface was pretty good (but steep) and because it was so late I simply drove to the summit. The summit has a nice stone marker, highpointers bench and sign, but no views to speak of - it is surrounded by tall trees. After taking some summit selfies, I continued down the mountain and on towards oxford. I did enjoy the drive along the Natchez Trace parkway. I stopped several times for views, and didn't realize it was a national park. I also stopped briefly at Elvis Presely's birthplace in Tupelo. I stayed overnight in Oxford, see the trip report for Britton Hill (FL) for rest of roadtrip.
