Ascent Trip ReportDay#2 continued from our overnight adventure with Jim Wallace. After Cliff, John, Cindy, Lisa, Jim, and I continued on to Redfield from the junction point. This was much nicer than Cliff with less mud and it ran along the brook again which I love. We could walk on the dry rock instead of on the trail during some parts. The summit is tiny, but there is a wonderful lookout which great views of Allen with Marcy and Skylight off to the side I believe. We then hiked back down all of the way to the lean to which felt much farther than it was. My feet were killing me by this point and I knew I had an open blister on my left heel. I was happy with how my knees and my stamina held up for the most part over the two days, but the hike from the lean to back to the parking lot was brutal. We got to the lean to, grabbed our heavy gear, and headed out at 6:30pm to tackle the 5.5 miles back to the parking lot. We ended up hiking in the dark of course and my feet felt like I was walking on glass. I wasn't sure what was wrong with my toes, but found out at home that I had blisters on some of the pads of my toes as well as a huge open spot on my heel. Having wet feet for two days and conquering about 25 miles really did a number on them. I need to manage my feet better next time but the rest of it was great. I really enjoyed the group I was with. The ladies were nice and kind of quiet, John Ryan was always there to lighten the mood or be the butt of our jokes, and Jim's knowledge and experience made me very comfortable. Of course experiencing it with my friend Tina is always great! Looking forward to doing another overnight in the future!
