Ascent Trip ReportWhile on Lincoln, I knew we had bad weather coming. My plan was just to rush up either Democrat or Lincoln, but now over at Lincoln, I could tell I still had some time up top.
I summited in 1 hour and 20 minutes; I summited Lincoln in 1 hour and 45 minutes; then Bross somewhere around 2 hour and 15 minutes; headed back up and over Cameron again to avoid the feldspar quick sand that was complained about by those that came up the Mount Bross Trail. Thus, adding to the days mileage and vertical gain.
I met another man that was training for Kili, and we both wanted as much vertical and distance at altitude we could get before the lightening so we hooked up and ran over and up Bross. It is a long relatively flat journey with fewer views than Cameron and Lincoln and lots of signs reminded you that you were on private land. Most hiked the circuit back down Bross Trail but others we met said it is very steep and slippery with deep feldspar sands that make you slide and fall. Plus the sign at the bottom near Kite Lake said the trail was actually not legal?? so we decided to backtrack the way we came where the signs did not prohibit the path up and back. that took us back over Cameron a second time.
I even had a motorcycle come by us and peakbag. He must have come up from the mining routes from the east. Bross is really a class 1 from the saddle of either Cameron or Lincoln.
