Ascent Trip ReportStarted at the Water Canyon Trailhead parking lot just short of the La Mosca lookout tower. The trail to the summit is well marked and easily followed. It is the Continental Divide Trail. it passes through some trees then 2 "turnstiles" before ascending to the summit through the forest. A few switchbacks and you are there. After the second turnstile you are in the woods right up to the summit.
Not sure of the distance, but a subjective estimate of 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot to the summit. We were not hurrying and only took a leisurely pace. The summit was reached in less than an hour, and the return trip was less than 30 minutes. while the view is nice in some areas at the start, the last part if the hike is completely hidden by the trees. This is the route to take if you don't have much time as we did. The views along the Standard "Gooseberry trail" appeared to be much nicer looking from the summit down.
