Ascent Trip ReportJust past the turn off for Schulman Grove, the pavement ends on White Mountain Road, another 3/4 of a mile on White Mountain Road there is a dirt parking area with enough room for about 4 cars. It is right at the base of Cold Benchmark/Clem Nelson Peak, and the saddle between Cold and Discovery Peak is just a bit to the southeast, This is a good spot to start up these two peaks. We started up just to the right of the parking spot and a bit north of the saddle and climbed the ridge up to Cold Benchmark/Clem Nelson Peak. Once back down at the saddle we climbed straight up the west ridge to the summit of Discovery Peak. What a great view! With a nice breeze and 360 degree view what else can I say other than I love this! This is a really short trip either by itself or combined with Cold Benchmark so it is a good way to acclimatize for something bigger but then again it is a great one to do any time. The weather was perfect, the view was fantastic and I got to have a beautiful morning on another summit with Kim.
