Ascent Trip Report

We approached from Black Powder Pass trailhead. The approach to BPP is wide open and beautiful this time of year. We ascended left out of the pass and started the numerous false summit approach. This approach kicked out butt. You can not see the summit from the BPP parking lot or from the pass. You think you do but you don't. This makes for a mentally challenging trek. But just keep climbing up and down over the 3-4 false summits and you'll get there. Once it off the pass this approach is all loose rock. Take care to watch your step. There are wide open views the entire hike.
We did some scrambling on the way down to shorten it up. Not the best idea but interesting non the less.
This is a somewhat challenging hike due to the many false summits and loose rock. However, back plenty of water, take your time and moderately experienced hikers and preteens could handle this approach.
We did the hike within in 24hrs of coming from low elevation. Bad idea, breathing was very challenging during the climb. Better to acclimate for a day or two first.
