Ascent of Mount Jefferson on 2017-07-17
|Date:||Monday, July 17, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||11941 ft / 3639 m|
Ascent Trip ReportLed DPS trip with Peter: Annie Rolls and Lisa Buckley. Tried to drive NF 010 to Jefferson Summit from the west (Round Mountain). Bad idea. If you decide to use this route, drive on 44110A, not 44110, as it is more traveled, less rocky and brushy, and ends up joining up again. You probably won't be able to drive much beyond the old mining town, but there is a nice campsite just off the road surrounded by trees/brush and next to the stream. This is 3.1 miles from Jefferson Summit where the hike used to start from, adding 6.2mi, 1300' to the hike. We started early when it was sprinkling off and on, then cleared. Nice day with breezes, nice views. But very hot coming down that last 3.1mi from Jefferson Summit back to camp, going west into the sun. Recommend using Greg Gerlach's route from Pine Creek CG instead of this route, or approaching Jefferson Summit from the east.
