Ascent Trip ReportFollowed the very helpful TR from Ben Lostracco 2009-08-13 and finished my NC workout day of peakbagging along the BRP with one last 6000 peak. Left Karen in the car. Round Trip was reported to be around 1 hour according to TR used, but we wanted to get back to the hotel and use the hottub and it was getting late so i jog-walked the trail and summitted the 2 mile trip and returned in 30 minutes. Made two wrong turns where the herd trail was confusing or might have completed the effort in 25 minutes. Good ending workout on the legs to a 12 mile, 3000 foot gain day and 7 peaks.
Conditions on the "trail" were muddy and slick and the Rhododendrons were useful for handgrips where the path through the shrubs was steep and slippery. No real views at top. One decent backview back at parking area. Summit marked with a pipe. Summitted with one just for the excercise and to cross another 6000 footer off the list. Trail was not really a bushwhack for the most part since there was something to follow all the way up but it was so juvenille of a trail and overgrown with shrubs you were "bushwhacked" for the entire upper section in dense NC Rhodendrons. |
