Ascent Trip Report

After failing to find the trail from Alpine Dr. last year, I decided to try to find the trail at Thorn Hill Rd. I heard it started on someones driveway, and had a little time to search for it. I parked on Thorn Hill Road, after deciding that I had the right driveway, and a local came out to ask me if I was lost. After explaining the situation, she kindly offered to help me to the trail head and said my parking job was acceptable. I did indeed have the right driveway, and about 150 feet up, the small (6x8inch) "THORN Mtn." with an arrow, was visible, sticking out from a flower bed. After that, the trail was easy to follow. The mosquitos were quite annoying, and the trail was very wet and covered with leaves, which led to a few slips along the way. The summit had a few nice view points, and I hung out for a while watching a hawk and enjoying the breeze. On the way down, I followed a side trail that I noticed on the way up, and it led to the clearing at the end of Alpine drive, where I had tried earlier. I moved fast enough on the way down that the bugs weren't a problem.
