Ascent Trip ReportI had climbed Mount Democrat in 1995, so I was able to focus on the other 14-teeners in the area instead, which included climbing Mount Cameron first. My son, Marshall, was with me, but he had not climbed Mount Democrat, so we separated as Marshall tried to bag this extra peak first. This was not really a problem for us, because my son climbs so much faster than I do anymore, and he actually caught me before I even reached the summit of Mount Cameron, even though he successfully summited Mount Democrat first. I reached the summit of Mount Cameron after 3.5 hours, which is quite slow, so you will probably do better. Mount Cameron is not necessarily an official 14-teener, but it still has great views with Mount Lincoln to the NE, Mount Democrat to the SW and Mount Bross to the SE. Most climbers leave Mount Bross and head toward Mount Lincoln and then Mount Bross before hiking back to the trailhead. The route to Mount Lincoln looks long and intimidating from Mount Bross, but it is not nearly as bad as it looks. I reached Mount Lincoln in less than 30 minutes from Mount Bross. |
