Ascent of Hamner Butte on 2017-07-05

|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7098 ft / 2163 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI tried to follow Paul McClellan's route, but found a fallen tree on road 4678-350 as Dean Gaudet did. I went further on 4678 and turned back west and reached the point where his track started. The brush was thick and shoulder-high so I gave up on that route. Back tracking I went up further on 4680 and parked. There was a worse road going up which I hiked to a switchback and went west then left the road and started up slopes with fallen timber, but not much brush. This worked out and higher up the ground was more open with low manzanita that was not a problem. If you have a good vehicle I suggest driving up to where I left the road since it wasn't that bad.
Here are driving directions if coming from the south:
0.0 on route 46 go right (northeast) on 4680
1.9 go left on possibly 4674 (not marked)
2.1 go right on 4678
4.3 go straight (junction with 4768-350 on the left)
5.5 road junction where I parked nearby. If you have a 4WD vehicle I suggest you go right up the road to the start of my track since it is not that terrible.
Note: the roads are a bit different from what is shown on the topo map.
