Ascent Trip Report

Not an easy climb. Very steep - muy inclinado. Distance hard to estimate as there are no official route maps or measurements. Weather was cloudy for the ascent, which was great to avoid sun and heat. Fully in a cloud at summit. It was an incredible experience to inch your way up to the rim of the caldera and smell the sulfur. Couldn't see down into the caldera due to all the mist. Bright and sunny on the way down. HOT. Trail was very loose rock in some parts. At one point we hiked straight up a lava chute. I was miserable on the way down. Fell several times; actually fell or stumbled a lot going up too.
