Ascent Trip Report

Ascended Sort Line Trail, King Ravine Trail, Chemin Des Dames, then finally Airline to the Mt. Adams summit. Stepped off the trail to get JQ Adams on the way up. Decent by Star Lake Trail to the AMC hut then on up Mt. Madison. The round trip up Madison was 30 mins door to door from the hut with lots of false summits on the way. Descended the Valley Way trail back to the Appalachia trailhead. 65mph wind gusts up top, never seen my breath in July before.
This was a great hike but if I knew how difficult it was I would not have brought my Father with me. He had a hard time getting out of the ravine and had to wait for me at the hut while I went on and tagged the peaks alone. Chemin des Dames has a place where you have to climb up through a narrow hole surrounded by boulders on all sides, not for the faint of heart. The talus field you have to negotiate in King ravine has huge boulders with deep gaps all around, definitely experts only territory. The old man still hasn't forgiven me.

10.6 miles round trip.

4510' vertical gain.

5335' cumulative elevation gain.

7:30 total trip time.
